Millway Primary School (June 2009)

Hi Steve, I have had lots of positive feedback from both staff and children as to how much they loved the circus workshops. It was lovely to see the children beginning the workshop not really knowing what to do and then mastering the skills within an hour. They were full of it when they got back to the classroom. The week is going really well and the children are responding well to all of the activities and the healthy eating and exercise messages. They were all exhausted after the workshops. I’m glad you enjoyed working with the children too. The response during the assembly was great and I would have liked you to perform for longer but there just wasn’t time with the other visitors as well. I had been feeling quite stressed about the week but seeing the children with their open mouths at your tricks made it all worthwhile. Of course you will be recommended and I am hoping that next year we could book you again. Many thanks, Gemma Kay.

BROWNIES/RAINBOWS/GUIDES

Wishaw Brownies & Guides Circus Skills Badge Workshops (Feb 2008)

Thank you very much for the workshops both at Guides and at Brownies, the girls all really enjoyed themselves. As you will have noticed, as well as having a few over the top hyper-ish kids we have a few very shy ones too and they all got the chance to shine. That will put them in good stead for English at high school where they need to do regular solo talks, so the more practice they get at being in front of people the better.

Preparing Guides for their Circus Skills Badge & also for their Talent Show in Fyvie, Aberdeenshire (OCt 2005)

Just a quick line to let you know how we got on today! The weather was dry & sunny but ever so windy so we moved onto the hard ground in the shelter of the house. We used your idea of everyone having a stage name and had prepared leaflets to give out with a list of acts. We also had a few rehearsals and changed our plans many times!

We managed to present some wonderful displays using the sonic poi, devilstick, diablo and juggling. Everyone had great costumes and we provided popcorn & toffee apples to add to the atmosphere.

I have already had 2 phone calls from mums to say that their girls had such a great weekend. Thanks so much for your help and time, we really appreciated it!!!

SCOUTS/CUBS/EXPLORERS

14th Forth Valley Scout Troop (1st Falkirk) (Nov 2006)

Just a note to thank you for helping us with our circus Skills badge. All aspects of the evening were just great. The scouts picked up some new skills, you kept the evening moving with a great mixture of workshops, advice, a performance, a question and answer session and even a game thrown in. Your advice on performance and the little performances the scouts gave to each other at the end of the evening was just brilliant. I cannot recommend you highly enough to scouts and other youth groups. A challenging fun filled evening.

Hamish Scott
Scout Leader

Hi Will,

I just thought I’d let you have Steve Thomson’s details (copied into this email). He’s a professional juggler – also a Christian. He runs sessions schools, parties, groups like the Scouts, and also some sessions with a Christian flavour.

The session he ran for Scouts last night was excellent and I’d highly recommend him to other Troops in the District considering running a circus skills evening. The Scouts were completely absorbed and learned some impressive new skills, putting on a show at the end of the session.

The cost was very reasonable for the 20+ who benefited from it. We may well be inspired to work towards a circus skills badge!

Anyway, please feel free to pass on Steve’s details, and our recommendation, to any others in the District who you think may be interested.

Best Regards,

Chris Dee

BOYS & GIRLS BRIGADE

2 x Workshops for Dunblane Boys’ Brigade (March 2005)

All the boys – from Junior Section (P4-6) and Company Section (P7-S6) had a whale of a time trying out all the new juggling and other circus activities. Steve spent a very reasonable amount of time explaining things and then let the boys explore, which allowed them a lot more freedom than a structured “lesson”. Although initially a bit shy in showing off their new-found skills at the end of the night, Steve did a great job of teasing the performer in them out into the public domain. The boys, no matter how “grown up” they think they are, had no qualms about spending an evening learning something new and not being afraid to make mistakes. On top of all that, Steve provided a great role-model to them by talking about how juggling and performing links to the Christian walk of life. Thanks, Steve, for a great night – we’ll have you back again sometime, I’m sure!

Nene Valley Area Girls Brigade (June 2009)

Dear Steve,

Thank you for a lovely evening on Monday. All the girls and the adults loved it and learned a lot. I have forwarded your email and website details to GB headquarters in Oxfordshire so hopefully you will get more bookings. Thanks again for a great time,

love Sue

Dynamic Earth (SCCYP event) (Oct 2005)

I just wanted to drop you a quick email to say thank you very much for running two circus skills workshops at our event on Friday. The young people thoroughly enjoyed taking part and learning new skills and generally having a whole lot of fun!

The event was a great success and we have received a lot of positive feedback from all those involved and I wanted to thank you for helping us to make the day both successful and memorable.

Many thanks again.

World Youth Congress (Aug 2005)

Thank you for running your circus skills workshop at the World Youth Congress 2005 in Scotland. Your workshop was amazing and I know that the many delegates who attended had a great time. I felt you did a tremendous job keeping our young delegates entertained, especially considering that they came from over 120 different cultures! I think your workshop was a great part of a very important youth event and gave our delegates a welcome brake from the difficult issues of International Development that they were discussing.

Many thanks,

Hi Steve,

Its Kimberley and Maria, the two naturals at your circus skills class at the Mayfield Centre. We would just like to thank you for a wonderful afternoon, we found it most enjoyable.

We think that you are a very skillful person who has followed his heart to your future. We think that you are a great role model for young people who want to follow their dreams, no matter how un-realistic they may seem.

We wish you all the best for the future and will keep you in mind for and parties that may require your expertise.

Birthday/CHRISTmas Parties

Callum’s 9th Birthday Party (October 2004)

Hi Steve!

I really enjoyed the party and so did my friends too. We all had great fun. I especially liked learning the devil sticks. Going outside to practice the diabolos and everything else was great fun. The perfomance was great too. I’m really picking up on my juggling skills.

Thank you for coming round.

From Callum

Ruaridh o Donnells 11th Birthday Party (Feb 2003)

Steve came to juggle at Ruaridh’s 11th birthday party. He brought lots of juggling equipment …..which we all enjoyed trying out – adults included! Steve provided patient and expert tuition – most of us learned something by the end of the party, whether it was spinning plates, juggling balls or scarves, devil sticks or diablo. And throughout the party Steve gave some virtuoso juggling performances.

The website pictures and write-up were ready almost immediately – good fun to show far-away cousins. Have had good reports from all those at the party – I’d recommend Steve as a juggler, both for performance and teaching. And, his on-line shop is very good value!

Steve was thoroughly entertaining and added a novelty moment to our forums Christmas party and to the surprise of one of our members who got roped in to spin all the plates. Steve was very good especially in such a confined space and would recommend him to anyone wanting a juggler.

Weddings

Erica and Philip Stewart’s Wedding (Sept 2006)A Glowing Report

Our wedding day was so special to us and we had a brilliant time. Steve thank you so much for entertaining all the kids, so many people commented on you juggling and showing the kids different things, their faces in the pictures we have, says it all. What made the meal extra special was your glow in the dark juggling show. This was soooooo cool and everybody loved it. You are a fantastic guy, a talented imaginative juggler and a fab friend. Thank you so much for giving our day a fabulous glow.

Erica and Philip Stewart

Wedding Party (Sept 2003)

We thought it would be a nice idea to have Steve perform at the party following my sister’s wedding, as it was an unusual idea and also a good way to entertain the numerous children that would be present. Not only was Steve’s performance highly entertaining and amusing, but he displayed a real talent in keeping the children’s attention and getting everyone involved. His natural friendly personality and easy-going and polite nature meant that his performance was perfect for a wedding party, and he really helped to break the ice amongst the guests. Following the party, many guests commented on how nice it had been to have him perform, and expressed an interst in hiring Steve for future functions and parties. Initially we had been unsure as to how a juggling performance could fit into a wedding party, but Steve not only met expectations but exceeded them, and I would have no hesitation in reccommending him to anyone considering hiring such an act!

Just wanted to say thank you so much for braving the snow and attending our Christmas Lights Switch On. The juggling and fire-juggling went down a storm and really added to the night. Scottish Forum for Public Health (Oct 2006)

Just a quick note to say thanks for your part in the Scottish Forum for Public Health event last week. It was much appreciated. I hope it was an interesting day out for yourself as well.

I took the liberty of passing on your info to the Playfield Institute in Fife about your services and they may be in touch sometime as they are actively looking at using the creative and theatre arts for staff and child development. Also I did a quick literature search on the role of circus arts in health and wellbeing and will drop the results off soon.

Happy juggling

Firestarters Visit to Childrens Ward (April 2002)

We were delighted when Steve willing agreed to join our Firestarters team during a visit to the children’s ward in Stirling Royal Infirmary. Our Firestarters team, which is a team of young people dedicated to serving God, had decided to go to the children’s ward so we could entertain, talk to and pray for the children which were there. Steve was a valuable asset to our team because he came ready and prepared with all his juggling equipment not only for himself but enough for the children to play also! Although we had face-paints, play-doh and crafts the juggling was without a doubt the biggest success. The children that were there needed very little persuasion to get involved and Steve was ever ready to instruct help and encourage.

The visit proved to be a real blessing and one of the mothers said that her child would have spent the day doing nothing but instead he got to play with juggling balls, hoops and plates! Firestarters would like to thank Steve for joining us and would recommend his services to anyone who is interested.

Thanks.

Townbreak (Dec 2001)

Town Break is a drop-in centre for people with dementia. As a treat for our Christmas party I arranged for Steven to come in and perform. This was a first for us. I need not have worried. Steven developed a good rapport with the clients, carers and volunteers alike. Not only did he astound them with his skills but he also involved them by encouraging a client to join in the plate spinning. This will not be his last visit to our group!

Circus Skills Workshops

St Ninians Out of School Club (Jan/Feb 2008)

Thank you very much for 3 excellent workshops at our Out of School Care. I was apprehensive that with the wide age range (5-12) that it might not appeal to them all as a group but it really did thanks to your wide knowledge and the range of activities on offer, which you worked very well. The children all really enjoyed using the vast equipment that you brought and the various games that you let them try out. Your pleasant approach, patience and enthusiasm is a great asset to what you do.

Many thanks & good luck in England

Junior Bike Ride in aid of British Heart Foundation (Sept 2002)

Steve has just performed at a children’s bike ride in Camperdown Park in Dundee and I feel duty bound to tell any visitors to the site how it went. Well if you are looking for a juggler, then look no further. Steve kept the children occupied not only with his own performance but he allowed them to have a go at spinnig plates etc and believe me, they ALL looked like they were loving every minute of it. Thanks Steve for all your help 🙂

Teaching the Wright Family to Juggle (March 2004)

We had a great afternoon: learned lots mixed with good fun. Despite us all being at different stages, Steve quickly assessed where we each were at and pitched at just the right level for us. He is really good at encouraging you. Can’t wait to the next time!

Hope this helps

Workshop (Feb 2005)

I would like to thank you very much for the juggling workshop you did with my daughter and her friends on 14th Feb . They all enjoyed it very much and having so many different things available for them to have a go at was definitely the right way to go . They all liked the clubs and the juggling balls, but I think the favourite was the FLINGO session. Brilliant fun.

The eldest , who is 10 would really like to have more lessons. I think you have pricked her interest in the juggling arts. Once again Steve, many thanks.
