Workshops/Lessons
| Circus Skill Workshops
come in many different styles, to suit various
objectives. They can be tailored to suit your
requirements, and will contain lots of fun and
lots of challenges! |
|
| |
An example of some equipment
used in my workshops:
- Juggling Balls, Beanbags and Scarves
- Juggling Clubs and Rings
- Spinning Plates
- Poi Spinning
- Diabolo
- Devil Stick (also known as flowerstick)
- Beach Flingo
- Toothbrush Twirling
|

Workshops can take on the following patterns:
Taster Sessions
Participants are organised in small groups
and spend a short time in a ‘juggling
zone’ which contains a certain piece
of juggling equipment (eg diabolos). After
a short while, the participants move round
to the next juggling zone and this process
is continued until every zone has been covered.
This method ensures that everyone gets a try
of every equipment and no-one is monopolising
a certain area, and that a wider range of
skills is learned.

|
Drop in
This is where people are able to join in
and leave the workshop whenever they want.
They can ask for assistance if they want.
This is ideal for Fun Days, where there may
be lots of different things happening, and
people will want to move around and try everything
out before maybe coming back and spending
more time learning to juggle! |

Structured Lesson
A lesson built around your choice of juggling
item. This will give the participants a solid
grounding in the items basic-moderate skills.
A series of lessons could be commissioned
so that all juggling items will eventually
be covered. This is especially ideal in a
school setting. Further lessons in the same
pieces of equipment will be able to move the
students onto more advanced tricks.
Items I can teach include balls, scarves,
clubs, rings, spinning plates, poi spinning,
devil stick, diabolo, parasol and ball, knives,
fire equipment and much more.

Show based
Workshops can lead to a show being performed
at the end. It is quite natural for me to
be hired for a week of one-two hour lessons,
which build up to a show on the final day
at which the parents of the children are invited
to see an “All singing All dancing fantastic
juggling performance show”! Shows are
still possible (but with much less skills)
following on from a 2 hour workshop. |

Other Issues
Capacity: I can manage up to 20 children
at a time with myself as an instructor. To be fair
on the students, I would generally request another
instructor to be available if there are to be over
20 students at any one given time! Of course, if you
have people who are willing to help out at the event,
then this number can change slightly. It is usually
very helpful to have other people who are known to
the participants “on hand” to help out.
Duration: A workshop (unless it
is a drop-in) would normally last for 2 hours. This
amount of time is required if the students are to
be expected to learn a few new skills and achieve
something. Certificates can be drawn up and sent to
the students afterwards confirming what they have
achieved, if requested. Alternatively 5 x 1-2 hour
lessons for a week (at school for instance) can be
ideal for building up to a show, where performance
skills would also be taught.
"Steve
provided patient and expert tuition - most
of us learned something by the end of the
party, whether it was spinning plates, juggling
balls or scarves, devil sticks or diabolo.
And throughout the party, Steve gave some
virtuoso performances."
