I have developed this course due to
demand mainly from Councils and organisations who
have purchased workshop packs from my juggling store.
These people are not usually jugglers, and are aware
that the packs will remain largely unused unless they
can get enthusiastic about the world of juggling and
also learn some skills and some good common sense
advice for how to use the pack!
Juggling/Circus Skills are very worthwhile past-times
for youth groups, drop-in centres, schools, educational
establishments etc all of which may have access
to a community chest of equipment through their
local council which largely remain unused until
the people can go on a course such as detailed below.
If you are unsure about why juggling is so good
for everyone, then please take time to read through
the Benefits
of Juggling section on my website (link opens
in a new window).
Workshop Sizes: Between 5-15 participants
is a good workshop size.
Ages: The seminars are aimed at
adults/people who intend on running workshops or
want to be able to learn how to best teach others
how to juggle.
2
COURSES ON OFFER:
• 2 day seminar (2 x 5hr sessions)
• 5hr seminar |
The 2 day seminar would be the option that participants
would learn the most from, where the participants
can spend plenty time receiving expert tuition in
all the juggling/circus skills disciplines so that
they can at least gain a basic-moderate skill level
and know how each prop works, and potentially develop
some good skills with several props.
Both of these seminars contain information and
handouts for how the people being trained can then
disseminate what they have been taught into a 2hr
seminar to pass on to their colleagues/staff/leaders
if necessary. Having this extra add-on means that
the equipment is more likely to be used regularly,
as the organisation has the resources and information
required to train others.
The courses largely comprise of hands-on juggling/circus
skills training using either the equipment that
the organisation already has, or I can bring my
own equipment if necessary. It is normally best
to train people with the equipment they intend to
use, so they can get used to their “tools”!
ELEMENTS
OF THE COURSE:
HANDS-ON/PRACTICAL:
- Learn Ball Juggling. You will find
that many workshop packs contain several
sets of balls, rings, clubs and scarfs,
so if the participants do not learn how
to juggle a basic cascade pattern, up
to 50% of a workshop pack may remain unused,
so this skill is essential!
- Learn all other skills I have been
requested to teach such as scarfs, rings,
clubs, diabolo, devil stick, spinning
plates etc
- Future props – A session where
I bring out further equipment that the
organisation doesn’t already own,
and let the participants see that there
is a whole world of juggling beyond their
box and always ways to add to their equipment
and learn further skills! Activities may
include such delights as toothbrush twirling,
manipulating plates, beach flingo, spinning
poi, unicycle, rolla bolla etc
DISCUSSION/TEACHING:
(normally done while sitting on chairs in
a circle):
- Benefits of Juggling
- Risk Assessments
- Icebreakers/Warm Up Games/Juggling
Games
- Tips for Running Workshops
- Different Kinds of Workshops
- Notes on teaching a 2hr workshop
- Putting on a show
- Disclaimers etc
There are plenty of handouts covering all
of the above discussion points to act as
a reminder for once the course has finished,
but you are welcome to take notes if you
wish!

Each seminar would be tailored to suit the participants,
and their particular situations, so that they can
receive as much common sense advice and ask questions.
