Scottish Juggling and Face Painting Convention 2005
Review from Graham Benson
(the organiser of the event)
We would like to thank all those who came to the
Scottish convention and helped to make it such a great
success. 135 people attended making it the
largest so far! We opened our doors at 6pm
on Friday and there was already a queue of conventioneers
waiting to get in. The first people in helped us set
up the site and were welcomed as usual with free teas,
coffees, hot chocolate, biscuits etc. Most conventioneers
had arrived by 11pm and Friday night was a great,
happy and relaxed atmosphere in Kinning Park.
We started Saturday with a big free breakfast for
everybody in Kinning Park and yes, the smell of freshly
baked bread and coffee woke the conventioneers up
in a pleasant way. After an extended breakfast we
all made our way over to the Glasgow Science Centre
and started juggling in the Atrium, meanwhile the
traders were setting up in the Clyde Suite. Up until
the start of the show many workshops took place and
were well attended.
THE SHOW

Back in Kinning Park a buffet
was already waiting for the conventioneers.
Bridget from Glasgow Juggling Club had prepared
tons of delicious vegan food which the conventioneers
made disappear in minutes!
After the buffet the Ceilidh Band set up and
we had our traditional Scottish Ceilidh Dance
which got everyone involved and up on the dance
floor. Especially the conventioneers from Germany,
Austria but also our acts (Matt, Pascal, Ida
and Christofer in particular) enjoyed their
first Ceilidh ever and danced the night away.
And then: the Renegade. Matt Hall premiered
his three club routine and he was so pleased
with the reaction he got that he is now planning
to include it in his repertoire. |

We started the Sunday with our
famous Jelly Breakfast, that is: the improved
jelly with sponge fingers! Then everybody headed
back over to the Science Centre for more juggling
and workshops and at 3pm it was Haggis Juggling
time. This year we had the Discovery Channel
covering the competition and yes, we did manage
to break last years' records!!! Here are the
new records: 5 haggis were juggled for 17.58
seconds, the 4 haggis endurance lasted 1 minute
and 13 seconds and 3 haggis were juggled for
11 minutes 38 seconds. And who got the records?
Well, Luke Burrage is the record holder for
5 and 4 haggis and he shares the three haggis
endurance record with Rob from Tabooka. Our
free raffle took place with lots of prizes donated
by Beard and Kablitz and then the games and
the big toss up finished the convention. |

Thanks again for coming and making
this one really special. And an extra big thanks
to everyone who helped tidying up Kinning Park after
the event. We hope to see you all at the BJC in
Perth and at next years' Scottish!
Graham and Britta.
